Nicholas loved camping and he wanted to be a Boy Scout just like his big brother Chris. Our goal is to refurbish the old rock house building and create a visitors center to enhance the experience for future campers.
Life moments and the memories they spawn shape our lives and the lives of our children. These memories fill our souls, add depth of meaning to our life and make us 'wealthy of soul'. Nicholas gave us much to cherish and remember. His live BIG spirit continues to overflow from our hearts.
From the moment of his death, our friends, his friends, family and the community have been incredibly supportive. From meals and cards to conversation and emotional support many people have helped us as we grieve. Some of these people we have never met and others we may never meet again. To all that have helped Cheryl, Chris and myself - THANK YOU! We intend to make good use of your support and help others live BIG as well.
Bill Speights and family.
For Info, livebig@livebigfund.orgNicholas never cared where or what---just THAT we were doing something. Camping, skiing, swimming----Nicholas LIVED BIG. Cooking, cleaning, snorkeling, racquetball, plant tours, drag races, Elitch’s, snowmobiling, sword fights, reading, talking, storytelling, light sabers, biking, slip‘n’slide, soccer---Nicholas LIVED BIG.
Sneaking out for breakfast at the waffle house. Staying up late with movies and popcorn. Inventing songs, lyrics, and tunes---Nicholas LIVED BIG. Cub scouts, boy scouts, strangers, neighborhood friends---Nicholas LIVED BIG.
So big that others were drawn to his energy. An energy of perpetual motion…and though his body is now still, the energy that we call Nicholas will lead us forward on our journey. Safe travels my son. Help me LIVE BIG!
Excerpt from the eulogy delivered by Bill Speights, Nicholas' father.
Nicholas Speights died on July 4, 2006 just three weeks after his 7th birthday. He was struck by an automobile as he tried to cross the street in front of the family home during a community block party.
Nicholas made an impact on an enormous number of people in the community. His energy was infectious.
